It has been a while since the last post on www.davidberntsen.com and there are multiple reasons for this. My stay in Ghana commenced in February 2007 and lasted as planned until early November. After that I had 2 exciting weeks in Kenya and continued from there on my way home to Norway. I had 10 wonderful months in Africa and it was with mixed feelings I was going home to a dark, cold and not the least busy atmosphere in winter-Oslo.
As mentioned in one of the first posts on the webpage I was in Ghana as a representative for the ‘Make a Difference’-project, organized in a joint project facilitated by the international student organization AIESEC and Fredskorpset, an organization funded by the Norwegian ministry of foreign affairs. The Make a Difference youth-project has as its main mission to exchange youth of various cultures across countries while working in traineeships for a time-period ranging form a couple of months up to several years. The objective is for these traineeships is two-fold. One is to develop an understanding of business and how it is conducted in another culture and the other relates to spreading knowledge of and in the host culture. For me as a Norwegian youth my objective was to inform about aspects relating to life in Norway and how we relate one another as well as learning about the Ghanaian way of living and sharing this knowledge upon my return to Norway. I often sincerely miss the exciting yet relaxed life in Ghana. I miss the people, the chaos, the sincere relations, the hospitality and generosity as well as the vibrant life. Most of the things typical for Ghana are positive memories that I will continue informing friends and acquaintances about for a long time to come. This time around the stay in Africa as a trainee in the Make A Difference project was for 10 months, and something I am very sure of is my wish to return for a longer stay when I get the opportunity. I now work as an auditor in Oslo, Norway and as much as I love learning about business and developing the understanding of audit as a trade, I know that a good life can be experienced in Ghana.
